When Gravity Fails
SRULI RECHT F/W 2011 , A diagonal line for men
“born out of this
and trying to get back in
worn out from bliss
and floating in sin
falling back through this future
and from where I’ve been
sky-born, deliberate
draped raw from within”

Andreas Gefeller
The Japan Series: October 16th until November 23rd, at Thomas Rehbein Galerie, Cologne
"The series' focus lies on the „Poles“. Gefeller photographs electricity posts in at least two single upward views from a perpendicular position. In the subsequent digital assemblage the pole disappears and innummerable cables and current transformers are converted into an autonomous and abstract composition that spreads in front of a monochrome background. The absence of points of reference and orientation opens up a new perspective on familiar situations. Thus, the „Poles“ transcend their original context in order to awaken associations of underground railway plans, autoroute intersections or night photographs of a city's pulsating traffic arteries."

"Super-Kamiokande is the large water Cherenkov detector. The construction was started in 1991 and the observation began on April 1, 1996. The Super-Kamiokande is operated by an international collaboration of about 110 people and 30 institutes from Japan, the United States, Korea, China, Poland and Spain.
One of the purposes of the Super-Kamiokande experiment is to reveal the neutrino properties through the observation of solar neutrinos, atmospheric neutrinos, atmospheric neutrinos and man-made neutrinos. In 1998, from the observation of atmospheric neutrinos we discovered the neutrino oscillations which neutrinos are changing their types in flight. In 2001, solar neutrino oscillations were discovered by the observation of solar neutrinos. The investigation of the neutrino properties will enable us to understand how matter was created in the early universe. By observation of solar neutrinos, we can know the activities inside of the sun. By detection of neutrinos from supernova burst, we can investigate the details of the explosion mechanism of the star." Super-Kamiokande

Chen Chieh-Jen 1996-2010
until November 14th, 2010, at Taipei Fine Arts Museum
e-flux reports: "Chen created a series of photographic and video projects that re-imagine, re-write and re-connect his experience of living in a marginalized region and the intrinsic spirit of Taiwanese society, as well as propose possible ways of subverting dominant neoliberal logic...
In 1980s, the Cold War/Martial Law period in Taiwan, Chen challenged the limits of expression under the Martial Law system and the conservative art establishment with guerrilla-style performance art and underground exhibitions."

Crackle
"When French luxury jeweler Mauboussin approached the Rockwell Group to design its new store, the design firm selected Nathan Allan Glass Studios Inc. to create a unique architectural decor element. The challenge was to make a statement without overwhelming the high-end merchandise it would showcase. Working in conjunction with Rockwell’s designers, Nathan Allan developed an icy, glittering new glass product that echoes the chiseled surfaces of brilliant diamonds. Entitled Crackle, this glass was used to unify three floors while complementing Mauboussin’s exquisite pieces."
